A Beginner's Guide to Scuba Diving: How Long Does It Take to Train?

It doesn't take that long to learn to scuba dive, just a minimum of 5 pool sessions and 4 open water dives. That being said, it is best to take your time when learning something new so if you can take your time, make the most of it so that you get as much as you can out of your PADI open water course. That way you feel comfortable with the scuba equipment and confident in the scuba diving skills you have learned on your PADI open water course.
The PADI open water course now includes a digital theory section so that you can learn the theory of scuba diving at your own pace and at the time that suits you rather than having to spend hours in a classroom with your instructor take you through the scuba diving theory and showing you a nice PowerPoint slide show.
The confined water or pool dives are spread over a minimum of 5 hours in the pool and can be done over a couple of days if you are in a rush such as if you are on holiday. If you have the chance it is always best to spread the confined/pool session out over as long as you can as this will allow your mind to retain more information and allow you to practice the skills you learn more. With the Underwater Adventures open water course, we offer unlimited confined/pool sessions allowing you to learn at your own pace as we feel this gives you a much better learning experience and will make you a better scuba diver in the end.

PADI open water referral course

The PADI open water referral course is the full open water course but it is spread over two locations allowing you to learn the dive theory and confined water/pool skills at one location, such as your home town, and then complete your course with the 4 open water dives at another location, such as your lovely holiday location in Maldives or the Red Sea.
This tends to be a little more expensive but is great if you are a little apprehensive about scuba diving in more temperate waters. To learn more about the PADI open water referral course please click HERE

Scuba diver Vs Open water diver
You have a couple of options with the PADI system so that you can pick what best works for you. The PADI scuba diver qualification is a shorter version of the full PADI open water course which will allow you to scuba dive but only with a professional diver such as a divemaster or professional guide. this option is perfect if you don't have time to do a full course and is normally done while on holiday, so you don't waste as much of your holiday but still get to do a bit of scuba diving.
The full PADI open water course allows you to go scuba diving anywhere in the world in conditions that you are not fully trained for and this comes with a lot more responsibility so make sure that you make the most of your time on your PADI open water course and learn everything that you can so that you come home with the most confidence in your scuba diving skills.
